Drawing is among my earliest memories and it has never been far from my hand regardless of what I happen to be doing at the time. Even in the Marines as soon as they discovered that I could draw I was called on to create a flag, unit emblem, or even T-shirts.
Earning a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Troy University while caring for my kids is my best achievement. Since then I have drawn and painted hundreds of portraits of just about every conceivable subject from people, kids and pets to cars and buildings. Most of my pieces live in private collections while some are in public areas like the Fort Smith, Mayor’s office, the University of Oklahoma, and Troy University, Saint Edward’s Hospital of Fort Smith.
Portraiture has always been a passion for me mainly due to the reaction of many of my clients. Even years after a commission many people tell me how moved they are by my sensitivity to expression and of how I always manage to capture that certain something of the subject. A stray lock of hair, a gleam in their eye, or maybe a particular way they smile.
However, I’m not limited to portraiture. I’ll paint on almost anything. I have been known to do murals, carousel horses, even the fancy stuff on the walls and ceiling of the Representative’s Chambers in the Oklahoma State Capitol building! I’ve drawn illustrations for a video documentary on behalf of the City of Waco, Texas, and designed logos for various groups like the Mutt Brothers rhythm and blues band of southern Alabama.
Although I don’t consider myself a photographer, I’ve always had my hand on a camera, and took every photography class offered in college. Just so I could do my own photography work and tinker around with it. I have no desire to follow the competition circuit although, I’ve had a couple of my photo portraits win local competitions. My favorite hobby is playing lead and rhythm guitar for a group called "RoseWood" (which, btw is available for bookings...)”
