Es gibt sechs verschiedene Arten von Flamingos, allerdings in Europa nur eine einzige Art - den Rosaflamingo. Er kommt an der Atlantikküste Spaniens und Portugals sowie entlang des Küstenbereichs des Mittelmeers sowie auf einigen Mittelmeerinseln vor. Die Rosafärbung des Gefieders ist auf die Aufnahme von Carotinoiden mit der Nahrung zurückzuführen. Diese sind vor allem in planktonischen Algen enthalten. |
