Der New Yorker Stadtteil Brooklyn mit seinem multi-culti Colorit war früher erste Anlaufstelle für Einwanderer aus Europa und auch Latein-Amerika. Ethnischer Lebensstil, Sprache und die jeweils landestypische Küche wurden hier von Nachbarn aus anderen Ländern aufgegriffen, nachgeahmt und verschmolzen. Das frühe New Yorker Arbeitermilieu hatte hier seine Wurzeln. Das Musical WEST SIDE STORY spielt sich vor diesem Hintergrund ab. |
