How do I understand these images? How shall I feel about them?-concerned, cynical, empathetic, objective, shameful, angry, uncaring, voyeuristic, exploited, disturbed? What sort of person am I to be looking at them, ‘reading’ them in a broad sheet? What reality is constructed for me and how am I constructed through this reality?
Most of these paintings were shown in the same exhibition and were selected with the undersatnding that it is possible to interpret different narratives between them. I wanted an active example of the way the 'reading' of images in a certain context constructs ideas, understandings and narratives (discourse) based on what they seemingly represent. This is done in relation to print media, specifically broadsheet newspapers, in an attempt to understand my discomfort with some of the imagery found in newsprint and its chosen placement therein. I also percieve there being a disturbance in the presentation of types of imagery especially of those of our suffering 'other'. I only hope that some of these themes are in some way apparent in the work and that it does in some way contain my concerns of the viewing of 'factual' photographic material.

Very little in the past year. I am only seeking feed back at the moment whilst reflecting where I'd like see these go further.
