Statement:
Paul Kane\\\'s paintings and drawings express dread, but find solace in a touch, or a gesture. His surfaces are wounded and knotted, and yet find their way to simplicity. Materials are often found and improvised, amidst the ruins of a lost civilization.

\\\"The archetypal procession of characters in Kane\\\'s paintings leads the viewer over rough country and along the rocky road of reality. Kane\\\'s people, however, are fully conscious; they know it is a hard road. They are all assessing the meaning of the human condition. They are us.\\\"
