Sein erstes Ölbild malte Stefan Stettner als zwölfjähriger Bub.

Morgens präsentierte er seine Diplomarbeit, und am Nachmittag desselben 19ten Dezembers 1972 flog er nach Portugal, und eigentlich, kam Stettner erst nach 25 Jahren zurück... Nach einer Zeit in Lissabon, lebte und arbeitete er in Porto anfänglich als Innenarchitekt.
Die Malerei packte ihn, er nummerierte die ersten 100 Bilder.

Die Woge der portugiesischen Revolution trug ihn 1976 nach Brasilien. Für seine Arbeit als Technischer Direktor des marktführenden Büromöbelherstellers �ml magalh�es� erhielt Stettner 1997 den Design-Preis der Stadt Rio de Janeiro.
Die Malerei ließ ihn nicht los.

Er verbrachte ein Jahr in einem Loft in S�o Cristov�o (RJ) und malte.

Anfang der 90er lebte Stettner über aufregende Jahre hinweg in Stuttgart und Rio gleichzeitig. Zeitweilig in Berlin und New York. Ende der 90er Jahre kam er wieder nach Stuttgart, arbeitete mit Prof. Herta Maria Witzemann, dann freiberuflich in Deutschland und Brasilien.
2000 veröffentlichte er ein erstes Buch, mit Kurzgeschichten.
2004 fand er in Hannover endgültig zu seiner Malerei und beschloss: �Ich bin Maler, und ich liebe meine Bilder.�
