Vita / Lebenslauf:
Vittorio Bellini was born in Vertova, Bergamo (Italy) in 1936; as a young man he alternated work with his passion for painting, attending courses for nude art at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. In 1960 he partecipated at the Premio Torri (Milan, Palazzo della Permanente); in 1963 at the Premio Cremona and in 1965 at the Premio Arturo Tosi (Clusone, Bergamo). In 1966 he won the Città di Lecco first prize, with the work Natività and in 1968 the Sarnico first prize. In 1971 he obtained the gold medal at the Premio Caravaggio (Bergamo). From 1972 to 1973 he signed his paintings with the pseudonym “Bellorio” and the volume “Bellorio, Dipinti e poesie” was published.

After various pictorial experiences, in 1974, he won the Giorgio Oprandi first prize (Bergamo, Palazzo della Ragione) presenting Paesaggio autunnale.
Bellini travelled often around Europe, going quite frequently to the Soviet Union, where he met valid, contemporary artists. He had a book of poetry published, “Sul prato di bianche betulle”.
In 1975 he won the Premio acquisto Villa Olmo (Como) and the silver medal at the Premio S. Donato, Osio Sotto (Bergamo). In 1976 he obtained the Puecher second prize at Casalpustelengo (Lodi) and the Rassegna Intenazionale Inverigo (Como) second prize; in 1977 won the Premio Leffe (Bergamo) first prize.
In 1979 he has been invited to Moscow at the exhibition with Russian artists “Nature and us” (Church of St. Isaac) where he awarded the first prize. He was subsequently given personal exhibitions in Alessandria, Bari, Clusone (Bergamo), Bergamo, Stuttgart. In 1980 he won the silver medal at the Premio Piacenza and he organised an exhibition together with the Russian painter, Jlya Glazunov.

In 1982 the art critic Oreste Marini introduced the solo exhibtion “Fourty paintings 1974-1982” that the village of Vertova dedicated to the artist. At the Centro Culturale Mixo in Bergamo, he organized another personal exhibition.
In 1987 he was invited to show at the Resistenza e Pace Premio in Nova Milanese. In the same year, struck by the disturbing, dramatic day-to-day reality, he transformed his artistic style from poetic and romantic to “material”, with violent, fiery colours. He declared that this alteration came about due to his friendship with and esteem of the historian and art critic Giovanni Testori, who encouraged, advised and spurred him on to a complete change in his painting.

In 1988 he participated with two paintings in the “Biennale d’Arte Sacra” in Siena and in 1989 he was invited to the Città di Sulmona Award. In the same year, with an introduction by Giovanni Testori, he exhibited a large polyptych composed of 17 paintings entitled Via Crucis di Vertova, at the Rimini Meeting. The work achieved great success and was donated by Mons. Cecchini, Bishop of the Fano Diocese, to the Church of Maria Immacolata di Tavernelle (Pesaro).

In 1990, Bellini created a reworked Via Crucis, L’ Altra Via Crucis composed of 19 paintings that he exhibited at the Centro Culturale S. Bartolomeo in Bergamo and at the Centro Culturale ex-convento di Vertova (work permanently placed).

The exhibition “Graffiti Expressionism 2006-2007”, organized by the Galleria Michelangelo in Bergamo, in may 2007, focus on the children world; the artist paints simple and stylized drawings on his expressionist works using oil and collage with newspapers and magazines. He imagines that the children passing by the streets sketch their drawings on posters and advertisings; in this way they ingenuosly make the world more joyful and optimist. The message is easy: when we start to look at things with the eyes of a child our lives will be more peacefulness and less complicated.

He currently alternates his artistic work between Bergamo and Paris.
