Christophe Bisson is a French artist and filmmaker. He works with painting, photography and video. For the last few years he focused on the relationship between Art and recent history.

Born in 1969 in Meaux, France, he works and lives in Caen, Normandy. After having studied Philosophy at University of Sorbonne, Paris, Christophe Bisson has consecrated his time to painting. In 2000 he produced a series of portraits of Kafka, between presence and absence, which was shown at the Contemporary Art Center of Normandy. In 2002, he shows in the same place, Anatomia et autres resurgences, work about the impossible representation of extreme historical events. In 2003 and 2004 he makes a large series, cendres/accommodation(maîtres anciens), in which he reinterprets classical works in a technique mixing oil painting and ashes. He then began to work on the catastrophe of Chernobyl linked to the idea of the invisibility of evil. He shows a part of this work in April 2006 at the National Library of Ukraine and in May he was invited by the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona to exhibit the series of monumental paintings called Sarkophagos. Series of conferences and exhibitions in Kiev, Budapest and Vilnius on the theme: Art facing catastrophe. The same year he starts collaborating with the American filmmaker Maryann De Leo. They go together to Pripyat with a group of former residents and develop a film project together. In October he was invited by the University of Queens College of New York to show his photographic installation I belong to a place that doesn’t exist. In Marsh 2007, he and Maryann directed White horse. This is his first experience as a filmmaker. In April, they are invited by Heinrich Böll Foundation to participate to a series of conferences and exhibitions on Chernobyl in Istanbul, Ankara, Sinop…In 2008 he is asked as a curator by Rhône-Alpes Region to organize in Lyon an international conference linked to an exhibition on Chernobyl.
In 2007, he is the director with Maryann De Leo of film White horse selected at the Berlin international film festival.
