My work has an ever-increasing fascination with political and historical themes that define my own abstract expressionism and have everything to do with the union of concepts. A passionate conviction concerning the significance of space, not as void but as something charged with energy, where forces invisible to the eye are infinitely important to the total art expression and experience.
Every artist, has an image which becomes the painting itself, I have a sense of image, or of the painting as a mysterious presence capable of moving the emotions by developing complex associations from the simplest visual stimuli.
My artwork does not fit easily within the category of abstract expressionism, but rather an art of ideas whose roots are set firmly in the past yet conserves traditions that are still alive transforming them into living contemporary idiom.
Each work is a consistent progression from lyrical figuration to expressive geometry to free and brilliant coloration with atmospheric depth. The work is intuitive but deliberate. There are no accidental events, and color is its own personality playing in shapes with their curious interchanges and conflicts that take on a naturalistic association.
The artform which, by sheer sensuousness of its color areas, by the dimensions, and by the sense of indefinite outward expansion with minimal central focus, is designed to absorb and engulf the spectator, to assimilate them into a total visual experience.
This is not random use of simplistic software to manipulate commerce, rather the directed manipulation of composition, color and form with knowledge acquired from a lifetime of exposure to art, history, literature and travel. My worldly experience is what makes me an artist.
The titles of most of my works are the chance associations with something encountered in my life, or a personal reaction to a political event coupled with my historical knowledge and poetic satire. I understand and express this knowledge through my art.
The present digital artistic freedom to experiment is unparalleled in history. In this lies the hope of the future for artists that use digital as their art form.
