Black marker pen ( felt-tip ) drawings on canvas
During my interior design studies, when computer assisted work took the place of drawing by hand, I decided to follow a more personal path giving me greater scope for my feelings and personality. Although my paintings may appear like photographs, it is never an identical reproduction which inspires me. By accentuation, by the violence of contrast, the image is made more striking, thus underlining the scene depicted. Light, texture, indeed the composition will be altered under the stroke of my pen, becoming moments stolen from daily life, with which I wish to linger.Sad or happy, agonising or soothing, each painting immortalises the timelessness of experience. I am tempted through constant development to make my photographs sublime by the simple act of putting ink on canvas, on the principle that "light will reveal all", the true narrative.

Eric uses black ink on white paper, a taste which he has retained since studying for his degree in Interior Design. He now also works directly onto canvas in indelible ink.
Using different markers, he redesigns his own photographs and he knows precisely which of his many pens will give him the desired shade of grey.
Deviant de ses études d’architecture intérieure dans lesquelles le dessin assisté par ordinateur a pris le pas sur le dessin à la main, Eric FIOL décidait d’emprunter une voie plus personnelle et laisser une plus grande place à sa subjectivité, sa personnalité. Malgré l’apparence photographique que peuvent avoir ses tableaux, ils ne sont jamais la reproduction à l’identique des photos dont il s’inspire. L’accentuation, la violence même des contrastes rend l’image plus saisissante et souligne le réalisme de la scène figurée. Lumière, texture, voire composition seront ainsi modifiées pour en arriver à un rendu qui, sous la feutrine de son marqueur, viendront pérenniser des instants volés du quotidien sur lesquels il ressent l’envie de s’attarder. Triste ou gais, angoissant ou apaisant, chaque tableau immortalise pourtant l’intemporalité d’un ressenti. Dans une élaboration constante, Eric FIOL tente de sublimer ses photographies par le simple trait d’un feutre noir sur une toile.
