Bio / Resumee / Statement:
1951 in Berlin geboren, wächst Henriette Simon in Deutschland und den USA auf. 1980 lernt sie in New York den Künstler Franklin Alexander kennen, der sie in die impulsive New Yorker Künstlerszene einführt. An der State University of Albany/New York studiert Henriette Simon Freie Malerei und nimmt an den Sommercamps der Künstler in Woodstock teil. 1983 zieht es sie nach Berlin, wo sie an der Hochschule der Künste bei F.C. Bernstein Kunstpädagogik und bei Prof. Karl-Horst Hödicke und Klaus Fußmann Malerei studiert.

Der Farbmaterie, dem Einsatz von selbst gemischten Farben, denen sie oft Sand, Erde oder ähnliches beimengt, um ihr mehr Substanz zu geben, hat Henriette Simon die größte Freiheit zugestanden. In der Regel wird die Bildfläche von einem tragenden jedoch vielfach differenzierten Farbton, einem erdigen Braun oder einem leuchtenden Rot, bestimmt. Hinzu treten nervös-gestische Binnenzeichnungen oder Tastobjekte aus Sand. Hier hat nicht nur der Sand, sondern auch der Einfluss der "New York School" aus der Abstrakt Modern Art Bewegung im Bildraum Spuren hinterlassen.

So sind die Arbeiten nicht auf den ersten Blick erfassbar. Vielmehr verinnerlichen sie die Idee, dem Betrachter nicht vorzugeben, was er zu sehen hat, ihn auf sich selbst zurück zu führen, "sich aus dem Raum der Verpflichtungen zur Rationalität zu entfernen".

Der Prozess der Formwerdung aus der ungeformten Materie ist gleichsam die Bildaussage. Indem die Künstlerin nur bedingt eingreift, der nicht-rationalen Gestaltung, als auch dem Zufall und dem spezifischen Verhalten des Materials Raum lässt, kommen in den Bildern Ordnungen und Gesetzmäßigkeiten zum Ausdruck, die in Ursystemen der Natur ihre Parallelen haben. In der Zerstörung und der erneuerten Formwerdung, im Wachstum und der Veränderung sind Simons Arbeiten nicht Projektion der Natur, sondern nacherlebte Wirklichkeit.
