Bio / Resumee / Statement:
DÉMARCHE ARTISTIQUE

Entre 1986 et 1991, je fais des études en arts plastiques à l’UQÀM et dès 1990, je m’implique dans différentes activités artistiques et prends position en ce qui concerne l’injustice, la pauvreté et l’exclusion sociale. Mon discours se forme au moyen de différentes méthodes de recherche et d’observation autour d’une démarche qui consiste à articuler un témoignage des problèmes existentiels humains qui se révèlent par des particularités physiques, des expressions, des déformations et des attitudes… Il y a dramatisation par la facture, la couleur étant traitée en contrastes, en taches. Je cherche aussi à exprimer la vie qui les anime par une lumière intérieure émanant de mes personnages.
En installation j’utilise l’espace pour transposer, dans un contexte inspiré, des situations, des évènements sociopolitiques et dramatiques.
Avec des moyens réduits, mon intention est alors de rendre efficaces les choses à conserver pour stimuler la participation du spectateur.
Mes ressources techniques : acrylique, rebuts, bois, métal, rouille, panneaux de polystyrène, objets personnels et culturels, vêtements usagés, etc.

En l’an 1995, réalisant que ma pratique artistique avait atteint ses limites, je m’impose une période de requestionnement dont le but était de pousser plus loin ma recherche en terme d’intention et de formulation.
Ce cheminement me permit d’explorer, d’expérimenter des matériaux différents et de me repositionner essentiellement en sculpture.
Politiquement et socialement préoccupée, j’utilise exclusivement des matériaux récupérés. C’est avec les rebuts, les vieilles pièces de métal, les morceaux de bois trouvés au hasard ici et là dans les rues et recoins de la ville, les vieux tissus, cuirs usés, vieux outils et clous, etc., que je crée des personnages dont la structure métissée donne libre cours à l’interprétation et à la composition qui se manifeste par des caractéristiques.
Ces matériaux m’interpellent ; uniques et exclusifs, ils évoquent la misère, la souffrance, la détresse et les joies qu’ils ont côtoyées. Je les respecte dans leur intégrité. Du passé au présent je les confronte à l’avenir et leur donne de nouveaux rôles. Ils deviennent le support de mes inquiétudes face aux problèmes de notre société.

Avec un traitement minimal et une économie des moyens, j’improvise, assemble et construis avec ces matériaux qui me défient, m’interrogent, m’inspirent et stimulent ma création.
Mon art est singulier ; un art brut et actuel parce que sans référence et sans technique particulière.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

I studied fine arts at the University Of Québec In Montréal (1986-1991). I was involved in various artistic activities in which I took a strong stand against injustice, poverty, and social exclusion. My work took shape using different methods of research and observation. I articulated my artistic approach inspired by existential human sufferings. I created portraits of individuals with unusual physical traits, expressions, deformities, attitudes... These characters inspired me to use colour in contrasts and splashes. My aim was to express the life animating the characters by an internal light.
For my installations, I used a physical space to transpose socio-political situations and dramatic events. With the barest resources, my intention was to stimulate the interest of the viewer.
My material supplies: Acrylic, rubbish, wood, metal, rust, polystyrene panels, personal objects, used clothing, etc.

In 1995, I realized that I had reached limits with my artistic approach. I decided to have a period of questioning with the aim of going further in my research in terms of intention and expression. This process enabled me to explore, to experiment with different materials and to reposition myself using sculpture as my main form of expression.
Ever concerned politically and socially, I use only recycled material. With pieces of scrap, bits of metal, chunks of wood found here and there on the streets and back-alleys of the city, used cloth, worn leather, old tools and nails, etc.... I create characters whose mixed structure gives free rein to the interpretation and the composition.
These materials question me; original and exclusive, they invoke the misery, suffering, distress and the joy they have known. I respect them in their integrity and I give them a new role to play. They become the support of my worries about the problems of our society.

With minimal treatment and expense, I improvise, assemble, and construct using materials which defy me, question me, inspire me and stimulate my creation.
My art is distinctive; an art which is raw and actual, without reference and without a particular technique.
