Vita / Lebenslauf:
Elena started to study Russian traditional folk painting at Tatyana Shangurova’s Arts and Crafts School (Velikiy Novgorod, Russia) when she was a schoolgirl (1986-1989).
Twenty years later she came back to the same school with her older son and fell in love with the technique called “hand-drawn lubok”. This type of art was widely spread in the XIX century both in Russia and Europe.
Elena has the unique talent to express her own ideas and vision using the traditional technique. The audience often gets surprised by her bright imagination. Tea-trains, all-season trees, rainbow cats… Her naïve, childlike style always attracts people’s attention. Very often they thank Elena for letting them feel the sparkling joy of their early years. Maybe it’s because she is a mother of two wonderful sons who don’t let her live a dull life.
The artist has had many exhibitions in her native town – Velikiy Novgorod, Russia. The latest one - “The Mirror of my Soul” - took place in September 2011 (the Children Museum Center in the Kremlin). By the way, the Information Center during the XXIX Hanseatic Days in Velikiy Novgorod (June 2009) was decorated with Elena’s works, so the participants from all Europe were able to see them.
The artist often conducts workshops at her exhibits and local festivals. Her students usually feel very inspired bringing home their own masterpieces. Elena has a degree in teaching English, so she is able to communicate freely with all English-speaking people.
Besides “hand-drawn lubok” which is made on craft paper the artist paints on wood, glass and even vinyl (old LPs). Her works can be found not only in different towns of Russia but also in Germany, Finland, the USA and Vietnam.
