Statement:
I started drawing because my mother is an artist and was always drawing. When I saw her pull out a pencil and paper, I automatically pulled out a pencil and paper. I was her biggest fan and wanted to be just like her. As I grew older, I realized I drew for me, for my fascination of the subject. I was, and still am fascinated and awe struck by the mystery of how creation occurs. When I start a drawing, I have no idea where it’s going or how it will turn out, so I am often amazed.
Drawing gives me with a sense of accomplishment and meaningfulness. I especially enjoy drawing faces and hands. I love to examine the soul behind the eyes and the lines of the human body. Every portrait I draw provides me with the opportunity to create a work of art that exhibits both inner and outer beauty. A work of art that will, hopefully, live on for generations.
Vita / Lebenslauf:
Mikki Keller is a native of Baltimore City, raised in the Park Heights area. She graduated in 1986 from Western High School, majoring in College Preparatory. Mikki spent her earliest years watching her mother draw and always wanted to be an artist herself. After high school, she attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where she studied graphics and fine art. She earned her degree in 1990.
After graduation, Mikki began her career as a graphic designer. She has since been a senior designer, art director and a production manager. Currently, she is employed by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield as supervisor and graphic designer for the copy center. Throughout her career, the love of art she learned from her mother has not diminished. Most recently it has been invigorated, for she has added several new pieces to her collection. Mikki loves to draw figures, particularly faces. She works in many mediums: acrylics, pen & ink, pencil, pastels, but mostly charcoal. If all goes well, Mikki plans to retire early and spend all her time painting.
