Über mich:
Paul David Redfern wurde im Jahre 1958 in der Stadt Leominster in Massachusetts, USA, geboren. Nach ersten Erfahrungen auf dem Gebiet der Grafik un der Malerei (1975-1988) konzentrierte er in dem 90er Jahren seine Aufmerksamkeit auf die digitale Fotografie. Im Jahre 1994 erschafft er die Serie “Photomorfosi”, eine Reihe von fotografischen Computer-Bildnissen. Im Oktober 1996 wurden in der italienischen Illustrierten für Fotografie “Progresso fotografico” seine ersten “Photomorfosen” veröffentlicht. Im Jänner und Feber 1997 wurden die “Photomorfosen” in der Illustrierten für Macintosh Applicando-Computer veröffentlicht.
Die Akademie der bildenden Künste in Ljubljana lädt ihn ein, einen Kurs zum Thema “Photomorfosi” zu gestalten. Die Firma AGFA Italia widmet ihm im Mai 1999 eine Einzelausstellung mit dem Titel: “Photomorfosi digitale – Metamorfosi della fotografia tradizionale” ( Digitale Photomorfosen – Die Metamorfose der traditionellen Fotografie) und stelt in einer Aussendung fest, dass Paul David Redfern “aufgrund dieser “Photomorfosen” in die Geschichte der italienischen Fotografie eingeht”.
Seit 2000 widmet sich Paul David Redfern der Erforschung der Fotografie der Bewegung und erfindet das Foto-Video; seine Foto-Video “The Earth” erhält im Oktober 2007 den “We Show Award” als bestes Kunstvideo online. Im September 2009 wird er mit dem Video “CodexM” zur Biennale nach New York eingeladen.
Seine Arbeiten befinden sich in öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen, wie im Museum für moderne und zeitgenössiche Kunst in Rijeka, Croatia, MOCA Musem di New York, etcetera.
Beteiligt ist, durch die Einladung, bei verschiedenen internationalen Workshops wie Video Film Festival Under 20, International Internet Days, Pixel Point International .

Paul David Redfern is a digital artist who was born in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1958 who currently resides and works in Gorizia, Italy. He states the he “discovered digital and computer art in 1990... in 1994 I created the first Photomorfosis"© which Redfern defines as “a series of digital ‘photomanipulations’”. Since that time he has played and active role in the arts by organizing showings and workshops using his own art as well as working closely with the Graphiti Association which is a group based in Gorizia dedicated to bringing the digital arts to wider audiences. Redfern’s work contains a depth to it not commonly found and is certainly worthy of perusal by a wider audience.
Working with only three tools, an IMac, a digital camera and Adobe Photoshop, Redfern artist creates some very interesting pieces. What makes them interesting comes from two aspects of his art that is more commonly seen in traditional visual media. The first is that Redfern incorporates a tangible sense of texture into many of his pieces. This illusion of surface texture makes it appear that the image has been created on an actual surface, such as wood or stone. Someone viewing the piece can easily imagine that what’s being seen is an actual object rather than a digital creation. This can completely change the viewers perception of the art. After all, an image that is actually a series of 1’s and 0’s is still very much in the realm of idea whereas an image that appears to be a tangible, physical object also gives the allusion of existing in reality.
Secondly, Redfern makes the viewer work to really see what’s happening in his images. It is not always immediately obvious what one is seeing when first looking at his work. Often there are human figures hidden in the compositions that reveal themselves only with a period of observation. In other words, the viewer must dedicate some time to unravel the image. This time spent is incredibly important because it forces the viewer to live, for a while within the world created by the artist, to explore it more fully and possibly feel or understand better what the artist is attempting to express.
What I find most enjoyable about Redfern’s work is the complexity he achieves using digital media. It is the type of work that may only unravel some of it’s deepest secrets over an extended period of time. This is very different from much of the digital art seen today which relies heavily on surrealism or visual puns to relate relatively concrete ideas. Redfern says that he is trying to share his dream world through his art and dreams are not generally straight forward experiences to relate. His works complexity is what put’s Redfern’s art into the category of fine art.

Evalution:
The concept of "Photomorfosi" is placed in the precise definition: "based on the possession of a technique that requires a specific skill", but it is also the result of human intellect. The idea of transforming the canons of traditional photography in a new "expressive language" (Roberto Mutti) was, from the beginning (1994), my winning and business card. Being one of the pioneers of the digital photographers helped me to acquire the technique needed to confirm the validity of my art: "Photomorfosi". This validity is the reason that I received the highest honor that the Italian state gives to those who have excelled in their field: “Knight of Italian Republic” for artistic merit (OMRI). The value of my work is not in the media but in the “idea”. Is the buyer who will decide what will be the final support: photo paper, canvas, metal ... Quantify or "monetize" that commitment is impossible. The listing of "Photomorfosi" are based on many factors and the sum of these make the final result: Euro 20.000,00. Obviously, the "concept", the "idea" is an "abstract" entity so, to make available the "Photomorfosi" to those who appreciate this technological form of art, I have adjusted the price to the current commercial standard price. My final risult was long more than twenty years and so in all my current work are twenty years of my intellectual commitment.
