Gudrún Benedikta Elíasdóttir
born 1963 in Iceland
Graduated from MHÍ,Art School in Iceland 1987
I have been working as an art teacher from 1987 but since 1996. I have focused solely on my art since I opened a workshop and gallery with some other artists.
The main theme in my work is nature, the connection between man and nature and the nature of man. Connection between the environment and the inhabitants, how the nature affects them. Soft and harsh weather, aspects of landscape etc. I am also tempted by strong opposites and double meaning in titles.
I have also been experimenting with the Mosel wine in my paintings with an old recipie called Patine au vin where I mix eggs, milk, sugar and pigments with the Luxembourgish white wine.
1999-2000 living in Sophia Antipolis, in the south of France.
2000-2006 Again in Iceland,
I have worked as a designer for showrooms in international fairs in Iceland for various firms and organisations such as Ministry of tourism, Tourist information in Iceland, City of Reykjavik, Ministry of transport, Corporation of Technical researchers of Industry, etc.
Made window displays for the National Bank of Iceland 1988-1997. Have designed and drawn book covers, posters and illustrated stories in magazines and a report for Corporation of Technical researches of Industry.
Artist in Recidence in Vallauris (South of France) 2006.
From summer 2006 full time artist in Luxembourg.
