Statement:
As rhythm creates movement in music, it is rhythm that triggers off the whims of my paintbrush. The timed beat is sensed by the eyes rather than the ears, making it my departure point. Considering my style as a 21st Century Neo Geometric Abstraction where the use of dominant colours often lose their intensity after playing their part in their tonalities, and where light and shade often cast the obvious and the mysterious, contribute to a format which invites the viewer to confer his own feelings in close interactions with mine’s
Vita / Lebenslauf:
Vince Caruana (b.1979) graduated with a Masters in Visual Arts from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence in 2006. He earlier studied arts at the Malta Schools of Arts and Scranton College of Arts of Pennsylvania (USA). Meanwhile he has mounted four solo exhibitions, his latest one entitled ‘Diagnosis: decoding an island’s identity’. The artist has participated in various collective exhibitions both locally and internationally including the Malta Biennale, Madiera International Arte Bienal (Portugal), Tempra Accademy (Connecticut, USA), Akademie Klausenhof of Hamminken (Germany), the Loggia del Grano at the Uffizi Centre and the Quarter, both in Florence (Italy). In 2005, his award winning-paintings have earned him a Special Distinction Award from Connecticut (USA) and the President’s Special Award at the Madiera International Arte Bienal in Portugal.
His art employs the use of transparent overlapping geometrical planes that catch light like prisms applied with rollers. These planes rise up to form an architecture that continues into a similarly constructed atmosphere, while light pours through them as if through a series of gauzy veils.
