Artist Statement
Art has lost its meaningful place in my time of existence. No longer does it lead culture, promote ideas and encourage free-thought. It has dwindled into a subculture that determines its own validity, short-sighting the broader reach of potential. The average person, in this age of information none the less, cannot tell you the name of a great living visual artist. I began late being a fine artist because I simply did not want to be a copyist or continue on and become part of the lost meandering path of fine art in the late 20th century.
Though I have been studying, drawing, painting and sculpting for the last 25 years, I did not present myself as a fine artist until a few years ago (2007) when I knew I had found my voice and my place in art. What I believe I am doing, is taking up where the Dadaist (or their derivatives Pop) left off. Early on, my thoughts were to create an art movement that reflects the knowledge that we have achieved thus far (the very basis for art movements), but my ultimate conclusion was that we have achieved nothing really. We have not transcended above the basics any more than when artists began to chronicle humanity thousands of years ago. We still live and die fundamentally the same, regardless of the distance between point A and point B. Comparing how well we live is a matter of the accepted mindset. The future is always perceived as better, but the ignorant and destructive past appears to be at the core of humanity, forward or backward. Existence seems meaningless. Religion does nothing to explain it, but only offers ridiculous man-made contradictions and just more misery; it does not supply any logical meaning. So science is fact, but it only rationally concludes that everything ends. The nihilist philosophy adopted by the Dadaist in finality does not allow for the need to still express one’s self and create art. Perhaps that is why its application to art and life in general has faded into near obscurity.
Pessimism may be the best name for my art [movement]. I am a happy person internally, but looking outwardly always seems miserable. Pessimists see the world realistically. It is not indulging in misery but honestly confronting reality. Unlike the Dadaist and Pop artists, the Pessimist must avoid meaningless, vacuous works in favor of a well thought-out concepts, intellectually-sound. Perhaps I am growing from a branch of expressionism? Regardless of art movements, this is how I shall manifest these perceptions.

Artist Biography
Artist was born 1971 in Toledo, Ohio USA and still resides in and around the area today. He studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and earned a degree in Industrial Design (1993). As the progenitor of Post-Technology Modernism, or simply called Pessimism, he re-introduces us to a contemporary art of old-fashioned contemplation. The philosophies of the absurdist run concurrently throughout his pieces as he presents issues such as religion/philosophy, mortality, morality, disease, or just art banality. Never satisfied with one medium, he dabbles in all and usually begins or returns to pencils and charcoal as one that he believes transcends all others; “…that is how man began creating art in the caves 15,000 years ago.” Trained as a designer, the artist essentially presents us with sketches that serve as visual novels from his mind. He has recently shown in galleries in the United States and Europe.
