institutions including education in a high school specific to art, college of arts in
Skopje, Macedonia and four years at the Academy of Fine Arts at the University
of Prishtina (1979). He went on to specialize in embroidery design in Arbon,
Switzlerland (1980) . Continued education in Canada to expand his artistic
knowledge at the Nova Scotia Community College for Computer Design.

Zeqirja was the chief textile designer for Europe's second largest textile mill. He
widely exhibited his paintings in Kosova and abroad. He was also commissioned
as a muralist to create frescoes for churches and mosques alike. His most accomp-
lished mural, “Albanian Persecution, 1846,” 650m² was completed in 1991
at the Binqa Church in Gjilan, Kosova. It was then that he became reputable as
a mural artist although that hasn’t been his only medium.

Zeqirja first exhibited in Canada opening with a personal show with the support
of Ship’s Company Theatre (Parrsboro 1999). The second showing was a group show,
at the Saint Mary's University Art Gallery. His most recent exhibitions have been at
the Craig Gallery at Alderney Landing (2001), the Nova Scotia Art Gallery (2002),
the Pier 21 Art Gallery (2002), the UCCB Art Gallery II (Sydney, 2005)
group exhibition “Art in a Box” at Western Hotel (2007), a personal exhibition at the National
Defence Head Quarters (Ottawa, 2007), group exhibit at Dalhousie University
Art Gallery (2007), a institution for which he has since created a series of mural art,
VANS Gallery’s “Polar” Exhibition (2008) and Aviation Museum Gallery’s “Flight”
Exhibition (Shearwater 2009).

He continues to do a number of commissions including the Tallships mural
in downtown Halifax (2000) and a series of eight murals at Alderney Landing
based on historic Dartmouth (2003-04-05), the 200th Birthday of Joseph Howe memorial
mural (2004), 400th Anniversary of Acadia in Windsor (2004), a painting of the
“Map of Canada” for the Immigration of Canada (2009), and more commission work
such as the murals of Cole Harbour United Church and Trinity Church.

Zeqirja continues to receive large commissions for pieces from organizations but
has also donated works to communities. He donated a painting to raise money for the
restoration of the oldest catholic church in the Halifax county, St. Patrick Church.

Zeqirja is a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia, the Cape Breton Artists Associat-
ion, the Canadian Forces Artists Program and IATSE. His artistic credibility lended him
an opportunity to be a part of a judges panel for the Canadian Air Forces Artists program
and was chosen to feature in CBC's ArtSpots.

Zeqirja is now maintaining a private class of students providing training for various
fine art techniques at the Art and Jules Gallery.
